I read the legend of sleepy hollow writed by Irving.W and Heart and darkness, writed by Conrad,J.

2. Based on the these readings, compare 3 examples and contrast 3 examples the works you read with themes from the ppt presentation given in class on victorian culture and literature.

This two books that I choose describes completely differents things bettween them, but at the same time are extremely related with the victorian age, because if we focus on the legend of sleepy hollow, it themes refer specially of the clash or conflict between the city and the country and between brains and brawns and in the victorian age happens somthing equal with the important of urbanization and industralization, and it carry out two class well defined richness and poverty which has a great important in that period.
heart and darkness discribes the symbolic terms of the struggle of god and evil( light and darkness) and at the same time it talks of a powerful condemnation of the hypocritical operations of imperialism,it also present a set of issues surrounding race that is potencially,more troubling.it also make references of the dark continent "africa" in the victorian era with all the atributes of darkness to africans by the british.

Do you feel that the works you read are very good or excellent representation of victorian literature? why, why not?

yes, I think both books that I read represent a part of the Victorian Era, because it mentions all the cruelty, violence, torture and slavery that occurrs in times of wars.

would you recomend the readings to friends or family?

I only recommed to read this kind of literature to people who likes english language or who likes to know or find out about the england history and what occurr in that period.
